Langer and Sauers (-15) Match Saturday Scores to Remain in Lead
Billy Andrade Fires the Low Round of the Day (65) to Move into Sixth
CARY, N.C. (October 13, 2018) – Bernhard Langer birdied the 18th hole for the second straight day to take the lead, if only for a moment.
Gene Sauers, playing in the same group as Langer, immediately followed with a birdie of his own to tie the lead once again. The two, joined by 2015 Champion Tom Lehman, will play together again tomorrow in the final pairing at 12:35 PM.
Langer birdied his first two holes of the day to complete a 12-hole stretch (starting Friday) at 11-under par. He also birdied three of his last four to keep pace with Sauers. The 15-under 129 scores set a new 36-hole tournament scoring record. The previous low was 131, set by Mark Wiebe (2007) and Russ Cochran (2010).
“There's a lot of good players out here, you've just got to keep the pedal down,” said Langer, who has made 16 birdies through two rounds.
Following a first round 66, Jerry Kelly shot a Saturday 67 to take fourth place heading into Sunday. He will head into next week’s Playoffs as one of seven players who have held the lead in Charles Schwab Cup throughout the regular season.
“I was putting pressure on myself all over the place. Now I've kind of resigned myself to just go play, let the chips fall,” Kelly said.
Billy Andrade fired a 65, low round of the day, to move into the top-10. It was his lowest round in 14 at Prestonwood Country Club. He currently sits in 28th in the Charles Schwab Cup, and is projected to move into the top-25.
Defending Champion and World Golf Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie shot a three-under par 69, and will tee off at 11:29 AM.
Sunday tee times begin at 8:00 AM, and all players will begin on the first hole. Tickets are available at SASChampionship.com and also at the admissions gate.
