Y Learning Program Students Participate in Career Day at the SAS Championship
Students from the YMCA of the Triangle’s Y Learning Tutorial Program, participate in Career Day at the SAS Championship presented by Bloomberg Businessweek. Students learn about engineering a TV broadcast in the Golf Channel production booth, learn the ins-and-outs of Prestonwood Country Club including the kitchen where the Tour’s best rated food is made and learn about golf course maintenance and preparation from Prestonwood staff.
During Career Day for the YMCA of the Triangle’s Y Learning Program students participate in one of three different tracks:
1. Hospitality and Club Management: Caroline Broach, Prestonwood Country Club Communications Manager, gives the group a behind the scenes tour of Prestonwood to see what it takes to operate on a daily basis, plus what special things they do during Tournament Week to make the SAS Championship annually one of the Champions Tour players’ favorite stops.
2. Course Maintenance and Tournament Preparation: Prestonwood Director of Golf Maintenance, David Dalton, leads his group on a tour of the course, discusses tournament logistics and operations and what his staff does in the months leading up to the SAS Championship to get the course ready for professional play.
3. Golf Tournament Media: Led by tournament staff, students visit the Golf Channel compound for a tour to see what it takes to put an event like the SAS Championship on TV.
The entire group then participates in a fireside chat with Champions Tour professionals.
