Q: How do I become a volunteer for the 2016 tournament?
A: Volunteer Registration is $60. If you sign up before June 1st, you will receive the Early Bird Special price of $45.
If you are a SAS Employee or Prestonwood Member, you will be prompted to enter and verify a promotional code (it will pop up when you enter your SAS ID #) and that will let you opt for payroll deduct.
Q: What is included with the $60 application fee?
A: All volunteers will receive one golf shirt with tournament logo, an official tournament hat or visor with logo, one volunteer credential (good as grounds pass and parking pass in Volunteer parking for the entire week), 2 weekly tickets, meals on scheduled work days and an invitation (for you and a guest) to the Volunteer Appreciation Party. Also, if you work 3 shifts or more, you earn a voucher for a round of golf at Prestonwood Country Club (date restrictions do apply).
Q: Is there a volunteer registration deadline?
A: There is no deadline, but many of our committees fill up in record breaking fashion. Please don’t hesitate to sign up if you see a committee you might be interested in. We will close committees as they begin to fill up.
Q: How many shifts am I required to work?
A: There is no shift requirement, although we encourage all of our volunteers to work at least 3 shifts. Working 3 shifts earns you a voucher for one round of golf at Prestonwood.
Q: How long is a typical shift?
A: A typical shift averages 4-6 hours in length but will vary depending on your committee assignment. Please see the Committee Description Chart for a better idea of shift times and length.
Q: Do I need to be an experienced golfer to volunteer?
A: No you do not; we have several committees that do not require any golf knowledge. To see the full list of committees available please look at our Volunteer Committee Descriptions listed here.
Q: When will I be notified about my committee assignment?
A: After completing your application online, you will be notified of your committee assignment. Any assignments to committees or shifts will come through email (TrustEvent) and verbally by your committee chair. Please continue to log back in to the SAS Championship Trust Event page and find any tournament updates, general or specific information to your committee, and to see assignments. Approximately 2 -3 weeks before the tournament your committee chairman will confirm your shift schedule with you. Please make use of the Trust Event system – this is a great way to communicate directly with your committee chair.
Q: Can I work on more than one committee?
A: Yes, when filling out your application make a note of the second committee you would like to work and on which day(s).
Q: Can children work/volunteer?
A: Volunteers must be at least 13 years old. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign a waiver of release for them to volunteer.
Q: Can I purchase additional uniform items?
A: You may purchase an additional shirt starting Wednesday of Tournament Week in the volunteer tent.
Q: When can we pick up our uniforms?
A: Uniforms will be available to pick up during our Volunteer Uniform Distribution and Training. Please check back for date and time (this is typically during Advance Week of Tournament: Oct. 3 – 9.)
Q: Can I exchange my uniform if it doesn’t fit?
A: Yes you can. You will have the option to exchange your uniform during our Uniform Distribution or you can exchange in the volunteer tent when you show up for your first shift. Additional sizes will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Q: Will I be able to purchase additional uniform pieces at uniform distribution?
A: We will not start selling additional uniform items until Wednesday of Tournament Week.
Q: What should I wear when I volunteer?
A: As part of your volunteer package you will receive one golf shirt and a hat or visor. While on duty we ask that you wear the provided polo with khaki or navy bottoms (shorts, pants or golf skirts, NO JEANS or athletic gear).
Q: How do I get to the golf course?
A: Directions can be found here. You must park in the Volunteer Parking Lot, and a shuttle bus will drop you off directly at Volunteer Headquarters.
Q: Where do I park for the tournament?
A: Preston Soccer Field off of High House Road – Located less than two miles from the golf course. Transportation will be provided to the Clubhouse beginning at 7:30am daily and will run continuously until one hour after the conclusion of play. Parking is free, courtesy of the SAS Championship.
Q: Should I still show up to work if it is raining out?
A: Yes, unless you have been contacted by your committee head.
Q: Where do I go when I show up to volunteer?
A: Volunteer parking is located at the Prestonwood soccer fields located across from the main Prestonwood entrance. A shuttle will be provided to the volunteer tent, where volunteers will sign in before their shift. Please allow extra time before your shift to park, take the shuttle, and sign in.
Q: Will there be a volunteer party? When and where will the party be located?
A: There will be a Volunteer Appreciation Party at the Prestonwood Ballroom. Volunteers are allowed to bring one guest each.
Q: Will breakfast be provided?
A: A continental breakfast (pastries, fruit, coffee and water) will be provided to volunteers in the volunteer tent on the days they are scheduled to work.
Q: Where do I pick up my voucher for lunch?
A: All volunteers need to check in with Volunteer Services when you show up for your shift. When you check in for the day you will be given your lunch voucher.
Q: Where do I redeem my lunch voucher?
A: Lunch vouchers can be redeemed in the volunteer tent.
Q: Can I bring outside food and beverage?
A: Outside food and beverages are not allowed on site.
Q: I have special Dietary Needs, who can I contact about this?
A: Please contact the Tournament Manager. We will do our best to accommodate any special needs.
Q: Will I receive additional tickets?
A: Yes, you will receive 2 weekly tickets to give to your friends and family.
Q: When will I know what professionals will be playing the tournament?
A: The final field will be posted on the website Monday, Oct. 2nd after 5:00pm.
Q: Can I ask for autographs while volunteering?
A: It is strongly discouraged for uniformed volunteers to seek autographs during any of the rounds, as it is disruptive to the Champions Tour pros. If you wish to ask for autographs, please do so at times when you are not wearing your volunteer uniform.
