Former world number one looks to make his mark on the PGA Tour Champions

Vijay Singh, a three-time Major Champion and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, has committed to play in the SAS Championship for the first time.

Singh, who has 34 career victories on the PGA Tour, collected his first on the PGA Tour Champions earlier this season at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf at Big Cedar Lodge in April – a two-man team event with partner Carlos Franco. He also finished 2nd in the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.

“We are thrilled for our fans to see Vijay Singh at the SAS Championship for the first time.” Tournament Director Jeff Kleiber said. “With the addition of Vijay, this year has the chance to be the best field in the history of the SAS Championship.”

Winner of the 2000 Masters, as well as the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championship, Singh was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006. He sits third on the PGA Tour’s all-time money list, trailing only Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Singh currently holds the record for most wins after the age of 40, with a total of 22.

Nicknamed “The Big Fijian”, Singh was born in Lautoka, Fiji. He turned professional in 1982 and joined the PGA Tour in 1993.

In addition to Singh, tournament officials have previously announced that John Daly, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Jerry Kelly, David Toms, Steve Flesch, and Doug Garwood will be a part of this year’s elite field of players.

Sir Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie to Compete in SAS Championship

Hall of Famers highlight elite field for the event in 2017

Golfing legends Sir Nick Faldo (@NickFaldo006) and Colin Montgomerie (@montgomeriefdn) have committed to play in the 2017 SAS Championship, October 13 – 15 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary.

“Nick and Colin, in addition to being Hall of Fame golfers, are fan favorites that will be sure to entertain everyone attending the SAS Championship in October,” Tournament Director Jeff Kleiber said. “They will add to an already elite field, including Bernhard Langer, John Daly and other legends of golf.”

Faldo, a six-time Major Champion, was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1998. He has collected 39 total victories in his playing career, and spent 97 weeks ranked number one in the Official Golf World Rankings. Faldo’s career also includes 12 appearances as part of the Ryder Cup, including his captaincy of the European team in 2008.

Since 2006, Faldo has been the lead golf analyst for CBS. He has competed in three events on the PGA Tour Champions this season, including the U.S. Senior Open Championship and The Senior Open championship. In October, Faldo will make his first appearance at the SAS Championship since 2014.

“The old Nick Faldo played some real consistent golf. That’s my goal,” Faldo said. “I would love to play like that again.”

Montgomerie has continued the consistency that was a trademark of his career to the PGA Tour Champions. He has finished in the top-3 of the Charles Schwab Money List the last three seasons. The commitment marks Montgomerie’s fifth appearance in the SAS Championship, following a T7 finish in 2016. He has never finished outside of the top 20 in Cary.

In 2013, Montgomerie was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He won the European Tour’s Order of Merit a total of eight times, including a streak of seven consecutive titles from 1993 – 1999. Montgomerie represented Europe in a total of eight Ryder Cups, including as Captain in 2010.

Yvonne Camus Highlights Executive Women’s Day

Camus, a business woman, mother and competitive athlete, will provide her personal insight of creating a high-performance life

Yvonne Camus, the COO of the fitness club World Health, will provide the keynote address for the 2017 Executive Women’s Day presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. The annual event takes place on Tuesday, October 10, as a part of the SAS Championship, a PGA TOUR Champions event at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary.

For many years, Camus competed internationally in Adventure Racing. At Eco-Challenge, the World Championships of Expedition Racing, Camus and her team became the first all-rookie team to complete the world’s toughest race. Her fascination with the creation of performance excellence and twenty years’ experience as senior business executive led Camus to deliver presentations that have benefited people and companies all over North America. Experience as a competitive athlete, a working executive and the mother of three gave Camus insight into the fact that true success isn’t the result of creating high performance for an instant – it is the result of creating a high-performance life.

“We are excited to have Yvonne Camus as the 2017 keynote speaker and are confident that her experience relates well to building one’s personal advisory board, our theme of the day,” said Jeff Kleiber, tournament director, SAS Championship. “This will be our most well attended Executive Women’s Day and we look forward to creating a great experience for attendees.”

Executive Women’s Day presented by Blue Cross NC brings over 250 Triangle-area professionals together with the theme this year focusing on one’s personal advisory board – the team that supports you both personally and professionally. The day-long forum features breakfast, networking, a panel discussion, and lunch in addition to the keynote address. For more information visit www.saschampionship.com.

Volunteer Challenge

Voting Opens Today for the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge at the SAS Championship

Friendly Competition Seeks to Raise up to $75,000 for Local Charities

The PGA TOUR is asking the public to help the SAS Championship earn up to $75,000 for local charities by voting in a friendly competition honoring the talent and dedication of its more than 100,000 volunteers, including more than 650 from the Raleigh-Cary area.

In its first year, the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge sponsored by Myrbetriq® (mirabegron) encourages voting for tournament volunteers and charities at pgatour.com/volunteers from now until 2 p.m. ET on Saturday of tournament week, October 14, 2017.

Participating volunteer teams ask friends, family, co-workers and the public to vote for them, and people who do not know a volunteer can cast a vote directly for the tournament. At the end of the voting period, the volunteer team with the most votes earns the opportunity to present a $10,000 check on behalf of Astellas Pharma US, Inc., to the charity of his or her choice from a list selected by the tournament. The tournament also has the opportunity to earn up to an additional $65,000 in charitable bonus funds based on the total number of votes received collectively by volunteers and the tournament.

“We are thrilled that volunteers at the SAS Championship are working to make such a tremendous difference for our community, and we encourage the public to vote, because when people vote tournament charities win,” said Jeff Kleiber, tournament director, SAS Championship.

Each year, with the help of more than 100,000 volunteers, the PGA TOUR and its tournaments raise millions of dollars for charity, with more than $2.46 billion raised to date. Volunteers have helped the SAS Championship raise more than $4 million for local charities since its inception in 2001.

The PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge will be held at 16 tournaments during the 2017 PGA TOUR season and builds upon more than $1 million donated by Astellas Pharma US, Inc., the pharmaceutical manufacturer of Myrbetriq® (mirabegron), to tournament charities over the course of the company’s sponsorship with the TOUR. Additional information is available at pgatour.com/volunteers.

The tournament takes place from October 9 – 15, 2017, at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC. It features 81 of the world’s best professional golfers competing for a purse of $2.1 million.
