Exciting Community Events Return to Prestonwood Country Club
CARY, N.C. (SEPTEMBER 10, 2014) – The SAS Championship presented by Bloomberg Businessweek is excited to announce the return of Food Truck Friday, Live Fearless 5k, and WakeMed Families First Fun Fest, Oct. 10-12 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC.
“As the tournament continues to grow and expand, our focus remains giving back to the Triangle Community,” said Tournament Director Jeff Kleiber. “Providing exciting events for families, fans, and children of all ages allows the opportunity to enjoy the weekend in a variety of ways, so we invite everyone to come join us as we celebrate our 14th year at Prestonwood Country Club.”
Following the first round of tournament play, Food Truck Friday will offer fans a great way to kick off their weekend with some of the most popular trucks in the Triangle including: American Meltdown, Chirba Chirba, Parlez-Vous Crepe, Barone Meatball Company, and Deli-icious. Trucks will start serving at 4 p.m. and the evening will feature free live music from Peak City Sound.
On a course unlike any other, the Live Fearless 5k at the SAS Championship (formerly the Blue 5k) presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina returns for the fifth year on Saturday, Oct 11. The course follows the smooth, flat cart paths at Prestonwood prior to the start of the second round and is an ideal setting for all ages and types of runners. Additionally, the first Live Fearless Corporate Challenge will take place which challenges companies to recruit employees and run together while promoting health and wellness in the work place. Runners can register at www.saschampionship.com and will receive a commemorative running tech shirt and admission to the tournament.
Immediately following the 5k race, WakeMed Families First Fun Fest will open. The highly interactive and entertaining programming will have plenty of kid-friendly activities including a giant slide, bounce house, arts and crafts, and face painting.
Children 17 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult, courtesy of the News & Observer. Parking for the SAS Championship, and community events is free of charge and located at Bond Park. Complimentary shuttle buses will bring spectators and families to and from the parking area.
