Final Field Set for the SAS Championship

Five World Golf Hall of Famers and fifteen winners from 2015 season headed to Prestonwood for tournament’s 15th anniversary

CARY, N.C. (OCT. 2, 2015) – The final field has been set for the 15th anniversary edition of the SAS Championship presented by Bloomberg Businessweek, the annual PGA TOUR Champion’s Tour event taking place at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary Oct. 9 -11. Commitments from 10 of the top 10 players on this year’s money list highlight this year’s field.

“If you look at the statistics of our field to date it really is one of the strongest fields we’ve ever had,” said Tournament Director Jeff Kleiber. “With the tie between Monty and Maggert in the season-long points race, a great group of former champions returning and new names that are establishing themselves as contenders on the Champions Tour, next week at Prestonwood will be a great milestone in our event history.”

The final field features 27 of the top 30 players on this year’s money list and 15 winners from this Champions Tour season, including Charles Schwab Cup co-leader Jeff Maggert, who will make his SAS debut along with major champion Ian Woosnam. and Sweden’s Jesper Parnevik,. Other first timers to Prestonwood include Champions Tour winners Scott Dunlap and Jerry Smith, plus PGA Tour winners Scott Verplank, Nolan Henke, Carlos Franco, and Scott McCarron.

Former champions scheduled to compete include defending champion Kirk Triplett, two-time champion Russ Cochran (2010, 2013), Kenny Perry (2011), Tom Pernice Jr. (2009), Mark Wiebe (2007), Craig Stadler (2004), and World Golf Hall of Fame members Hale Irwin (2005) and Bernard Langer (2012).

Other World Golf Hall of Famers scheduled to compete include Sandy Lyle and Tom Kite.

Notable North Carolina players include Scott Hoch, Mike Goodes, Jim Thorpe, Neal Lancaster and Gary Hallberg. Lancaster and Hallberg received tournament sponsor exemptions in addition to Steve Jones, P.H. Horgan III, and Peter Senior.

Children 17 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult, courtesy of the News & Observer. Parking for the SAS Championship, and community events is free of charge and located at Bond Park.  Complimentary shuttle buses will bring spectators and families to and from the parking area.
