5K will take place along the official tournament course
CARY, N.C. (AUGUST 6, 2012) – Runners, families and friends looking for a unique exercise experience will have plenty to look forward to with the third running of the Blue 5K at the SAS Championship presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 6. A race setting unlike any other, participants will run the back nine holes of the tournament course prior to the start of the second round of the SAS Championship being held at Prestonwood Country Club Oct. 5-7.
“We’re thrilled to continue to offer runners, golf fans and families the opportunity to run the tournament course with the Blue 5K at the SAS Championship,” said Tournament Director Jeff Kleiber. “It’s not every day you get to run on a golf course during a tournament and we think that, combined with all of the entertainment available during Family Day and great golf action, is an experience not to miss.”
The race will begin at 8 a.m. near the main tournament entrance at Prestonwood Country Club and take runners along the SAS Championship’s back nine holes before concluding at 18 green. Immediately following the race, awards and post-race food will be available as well as access to all Kid Zone activities, including bounce houses, a giant slide, mini-golf and face painting. All race participants will receive a commemorative dri-fit shirt and admission to the tournament and, new for this year, any past participant who refers a new race participant will receive a free hat (limit one hat per past race participant) in addition to the running tech shirts included with race registration.
Runners can register for the Blue 5K at the SAS Championship online at www.saschampionship.com. Registration is divided into competitive and noncompetitive divisions. Now through Sept. 30, competitive division registration costs $30 for adults, $20 for youth (17 years old and under) and $70 for a family. Competitive registrants will be timed via chip timing. Noncompetitive registration is $25 for adults, $15 for youth and $55 for a family. Registration costs will increase by $5 for each division on Oct. 1. There are a limited number of spots in the 5K and tournament officials are strongly encouraging advance registration in order secure a place in the event.
