Hale Irwin, the 2005 SAS champion, started the 2010 Champions Tour season with a fifth place finish at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.  Irwin, who is a two-time champion at Hualalai, used rounds of 67-67-68 to finish at 14-under par for the tournament.  For the week Irwin finished tied for second in total birdies made, with 19, and tied for third in driving accuracy, hitting just over 83% of fairways.

The fifth-place finish is Irwin’s second in a row, after going 41 consecutive tournaments without a top-10 finish, and also puts Irwin in fifth position in the 2010 Charles Schwab Cup race with 96 points.  Last season Irwin finished 55th in the Charles Schwab Cup race. For his career he has won 45 Champions Tour titles, and tops the all-time Champions Tour money list with earnings of over $23 million.
